Our complete homeowner nightmare story is now slated for release in novel format by (TBA) titled 'Poisoning the American Dream.' The story covers reports of criminal building errors and shoddy building techniques by large powerful builders, (using Ryan Homes NVR financial services as a first hand examples)
As a result of criminal building defects, shoddy workmanship, misleading builder warranties as filed with BBB in Virginia, and Allstate's denial of liability on our policy, (Allstate would not cover damages resulting from original builder errors) we continue to be unable to live in our home. (medical advise) It has been uninhabited for most of 2002 due to smoke and fire damage, and contamination that led to formation of toxic molds. Mold remediation and repairs for soot damage are underway at our own expense and effort. Additional errors have been found before and during repairs, including failure to properly torque wiring in the fuse box, causing wires to burn at contact points, and an improperly installed electrical outlet was discovered when the entire circuit's power failed, due to the electricians forgetting to tighten some jumper wire screws that made the circuit, leaving them inserted without any clamping. This created resistance points which acted as an electrical fire hazard. The fastening screws were untouched, not just loose. All outlets and connection will consequently be checked for proper installation. Light fixtures also show signs of burning wires primarily because of the low quality of fixtures installed. Cellulose insulation was blown in with no vapor barrier, and was not sealed from entering the home. The previously installed heat pump and ductwork was not sealed anywhere, and was pulling in air from every connection point. Legal action was attempted against the builder for damages and defects, but the case was believed to have expired under described statutes of Virginia law while in the hands of our former attorney. The actions of the attorney remain under investigation, and all actions and documents concerning the case and the 26 month State Bar investigation will be published.

Ryan Homes has threatened this site with legal action, calling it "defamatory" in May 2003. This was done by shoving a threatening letter under the door of our uninhabitable home, found while attempting to renovate it. Thus far everything the local Ryan Homes rep has tried to deal with us, ranging mostly from threats to lies, has failed.
